How it works

Four steps, and you never have to take our word for it

  1. Step one · Send it

Paste the text, or upload the screenshot or the document. No account is required to check a claim.

  2. Step two · Watch it work

Not a loading spinner. You watch Sanad read the claim, search the sources, and build the chain of transmission in front of you — one narrator at a time, showing where each link came from and which one the grade turns on. When a step finds nothing, it says so rather than skipping quietly past.

  3. Step three · See the evidence first

The chain, the wording, the sources — before the conclusion. This is deliberate. You should be able to see the basis of an answer before anyone tells you the answer.

  4. Step four · Decide, and answer back

Open the full chain and read every narrator yourself. Keep the link to the case. Or send a card straight back into the conversation it came from — carrying the evidence, not just a verdict, so the next person can look too.

What you can send it

Claims do not arrive tidily

Typed or pasted text

Available now

A claim someone sent you, in Arabic or English.

Screenshots and images

Available now

The quote card from Instagram, the forwarded image, the photograph of a page.

A document

Available now

A khutbah draft, a chapter, a lesson plan. As a PDF or a text file.

Voice notes

Planned

The audio message forwarded to your family group.

Video and reels

Planned

Audio is transcribed and the claim is located at a timestamp.

What it can tell you

Six answers, and two of them are forms of “we cannot say”

Verified

Found in the corpus, chain resolved, graded, and the source named in your text is correct.

Verified but misattributed

The report is sound. The collection it was credited to is not the one it comes from. Sanad names the right one.

Weak

Found and graded ḍaʿīf or worse, with the weakest link in the chain identified by name.

Fabricated

Present in the fabrication anthologies with a named classical verdict against it.

Not found in the indexed corpus

Sanad searched and did not find it. This is NOT the same as fabricated — a great many sound reports live in works no index contains. Sanad will never blur these two.

Unresolved

The evidence cannot carry a verdict. Sanad says so and stops, rather than guessing — and shows what it did find, and what would settle the question.

Beyond true or false

A report can be perfectly authentic and still be used wrongly

Misattribution

Available now

The right text credited to the wrong collection.

Grade inflation

Available now

A weak report presented as authentic.

Partial quotation

Available now

The dropped clause that reverses the meaning. Sanad shows which words are attested and which are not.

Added wording

Available now

A sound report with a fabricated addition welded on.

Translation drift

Planned

An English rendering that carries what the Arabic does not. The original is shown beside it.

Suppressed source criticism

Planned

Quoting from a compiler who himself recorded that the chain is not established.

Missing context

Planned

A report about a specific occasion used as a general rule, where the occasion changes the meaning.

Over-generalisation

Planned

A narrow report stretched into a universal claim.

Conflation

Planned

Two separate reports merged into one that exists nowhere.

Abrogation blindness

Under review

Relying on a report the tradition holds to be superseded.

Everything Sanad does

The complete capability list

Checking a claim

Locate a claim in the corpus

Available now

Matched on meaning, not only on exact wording, so paraphrase and loose translation are still found.

Walk the chain of transmission

Available now

Narrator by narrator, from the collector back toward the source, with each link identified.

Report the classical grade

Available now

The grade as the corpus records it, in the canonical grade vocabulary. Sanad reports the grade; it does not assign one.

Identify the weakest link

Available now

Which narrator in the chain the grade actually turns on.

Check corroboration

Available now

Whether independent chains support the report, and whether that support is genuinely independent.

Check the Qurʾān

Available now

Check whether a quotation is in the Qurʾān where it is said to be.

Say honestly when it does not know

Available now

Six distinct outcomes, of which two are forms of "we cannot answer this".

Checking an argument

Omission analysis

Planned

What the sources hold on a subject, set beside what a text chose to cite — and which of the uncited reports point a different way.

School-position disclosure

Available now

In a document audit, identify which school a reading follows. Sanad names the position; it does not score it.

Minority-position flag

Planned

When a position held by few is presented as the mainstream one.

Consensus claims

Planned

Whether "the scholars agree" survives checking against documented disagreement.

Reasoning review

Planned

Whether an argument rests on authentic sources, engages the counter-evidence, states its method, and reaches a conclusion its premises support. Sanad reviews the reasoning; it does not substitute a ruling of its own.

Undisclosed interest

Under review

Whether a body certifying a financial product has a disclosed relationship with the issuer.

Seeing the evidence

Live reasoning

Available now

You watch Sanad read, search, and build the chain. Not a progress bar — the actual work, as it happens.

Evidence before verdict

Available now

The chain and the sources come first. The conclusion arrives last, deliberately.

The chain view

Available now

Scroll back through the chain. Tap any narrator for their dates, their places, and what the critics said about them, with the book each judgement is recorded in.

The text comparison

Available now

The claim as it was sent to you, aligned against the claim as it is actually attested, with every difference marked.

Corroboration view

Planned

Independent chains shown together, so a single thin thread is visibly different from a well-attested report. Today each case states how many independent chains were found.

Generational timeline

Planned

The chain laid against real centuries, so a gap in transmission appears as a gap in time.

Transmission map

Planned

The route a report travelled between cities and generations.

Grade provenance

Planned

Which rule fired, which narrator capped the grade, and why.

Doing something with the answer

Share a card

Available now

A shareable summary carrying the evidence, not merely a verdict, sized for the chat it came from.

A permanent case link

Available now

Every check has an address you can send, cite, or return to.

Re-verification

Available now

When the corpus is updated, cases are re-checked, and a case whose verdict changed shows the earlier verdict and the date it was re-checked.

Dispute a verdict

Available now

Contest any result. The challenge is published on the case itself, so the next reader sees it is contested. Sanad publishes disputes; it does not adjudicate them.

Report an error

Planned

One tap from every result. Corrections are applied to the corpus and grading rules, and anyone whose saved case changes is told.

Saved history

Planned

Off by default. Kept only if you choose to keep it.

Watch a source

Planned

Follow an account or a publication and be told when a claim worth checking appears.

Trending claims

Planned

What is circulating now, already checked.

Reports you can keep

Claim Verification Report

Available now

One claim, with its chain, grade, and sources, at its own link. Save it as a PDF from your device to file or forward it.

Document Audit

Available now

A whole khutbah, article or chapter, with every claim in it tabulated.

Chain Dossier

Planned

The full apparatus, narrator by narrator, for scholarly use.

Omission Analysis

Planned

Cited against available, on a given subject.

Evidence Snapshot

Planned

Exactly what was retrieved from a link, with a hash and a timestamp — because pages get edited after they are questioned.

Corrections Notice

Available now

When a verdict changes, the case itself carries the correction, so a link you already shared now shows it.

Certificate of Review

Under review

A record that a body of work was checked, on a date, against a stated corpus version. It certifies that a check was run and what it found. It is not a religious endorsement and does not approve content.

Access

Checking a claim is free

Free

Check a claim. Watch the chain assemble. Read every narrator. Share the card. No account needed, with a daily allowance of checks; sign in for more checks a day.

More capacity

There is no plan to buy. If a research group, a masjid or a newsroom needs Sanad beyond the free limits, request access from Sanad's settings and a person will read it.

The boundary

What Sanad is not

  • It does not issue rulings, and it does not tell you what is permitted or forbidden.
  • It does not decide who is or is not a scholar.
  • It does not score a position for belonging to one school rather than another. It names the position and shows where the schools differ.
  • It does not treat "not found" as "false". Absence from an index is absence from an index.
  • It is not a scholar, and it is not a replacement for one.

“O you who believe, if a corrupt person brings you news, verify it.”
al-Ḥujurāt 49:6

What it stands on

The corpus underneath
